Free: Prepare and Use a Minnesota Parental Delegation of Authority When You Go on Vacation Without the Kids

Consider giving a signed parental delegation of authority to the persons watching the children for you when you take a vacation or are away on business.  The delegation is a legal document that authorizes the person ( attorney in fact) caring for your children to “step” into  your shoes and act as a parent in your absence.   The delegation is important in a medical emergency when you are not available to authorize medical care.   You may set specific dates of authority within the delegation that correspond to your extended time away from the children.  The delegation may not exceed 12 months.   The delegation is easy to complete and only requires notarized signatures of the parents and the attorneys in fact.  The completed delegation  is kept by the attorney in fact until you return.  The delegation is not filed with the court or recorded with the County.   I have included a delegation form based on Minnesota Statutes with my compliments.   You may copy this form for personal use and share  it with family and friends.  Single parents have special notice obligations to the other parent as stated in the delegation.  Minnesota Delegation of Parental Powers by Parent or Guardian
